Our online courses are specially designed to bring Liverpool School of English into your homes. They will help you develop all your English language skills including speaking, writing, listening and reading with a focus on functional language and communication skills. Our international classes will support you in achieving your learning aims and help you to develop confidence in speaking English.
The lessons are a combination of teacher led sessions focusing on different areas of the English language including grammar and vocabulary and student group work sessions where you will work with your fellow classmates on a range of different activities. You will be encouraged to participate fully during all sessions to maximise your speaking practice and develop your fluency and pronunciation.
Our Online General English course includes 10 hours of online lessons per week Monday – Friday. They are designed to be flexible and to fit in with you and your schedule. You can choose to do your lessons starting at 11am or 6pm UK time. Each day consists of 2 hours of lessons plus self-study time (homework).
If you are looking for more hours or some English for Specific Purposes lessons you can also add on one-to-one lessons to your programme. These can be studied at a time to suit you. You can also study an Online IELTS Preparation course alongside your General English course. Find out more here.
Our online courses have 6 levels:
- Beginner (A1)
- Elementary (A2)

Your First Week
Before your first lesson on the Monday you will need to use our online English test so that our Academic Team know which level of class you should go into. Please complete this test by the Thursday before your course start date. We will provide you with a student handbook to explain how the course works and any important information you need to know. On your first day you will start 30 minutes before the lesson to meet your teacher and ask any questions that you may have.

If you choose to come to Liverpool to study once you have completed the online course you will get the following special promotion:
- Free afternoon lessons for your first week (when you book a 15 lesson morning class)
- Your studied online weeks count towards your total number of weeks studied in the school to give you a better weekly rate on your in-school lessons. For example, if you study 8 weeks of online lessons and then 4 weeks of in-school lessons then you will be charged the 9-12 weeks price for your in-school lessons, dramatically reducing your overall course cost.
You can also add on one-to-one lessons to your package. These cost £45 per hour.
What if I have internet problems during the class?
All of our lessons are recorded and your teacher can provide you with a copy of the recording. We cannot offer refunds if you encounter problems with your internet connection during the lesson.
What if I have an appointment and can’t attend a class?
Just let your teacher know that you will be unable to attend. They will be able to provide you with a recording of the lesson and any homework that you need to complete. Refunds cannot be given for any lessons you don’t attend.
I have recently had to postpone my in-school course due to Covid-19, can I do an online course instead of coming back at a later date?
Yes that is absolutely fine, contact us for more information.
I would like to do an online course and then come and study in Liverpool once I am able to travel again, is this possible?
Yes absolutely, doing an online course is a great way to get ready for studying in school and staying in the UK. If you choose to come to Liverpool to study once you have completed the online course you will get the following special promotion:
- Free afternoon lessons for your first week
- Your studied online weeks count towards your total number of weeks studied in the school to give you a better weekly rate on your in-school lessons. For example if you study 6 weeks of online lessons and 7 weeks of in-school lessons this is 13 weeks in total. You will be charged the 13-23 weeks price, dramatically reducing your overall course cost.
How will I know what level I am?
You need to complete our online test and our Academic Team will use this to place you into the correct level.
What if I find the class too easy or too hard?
You can speak with your teacher about this and they will advise you on the best thing to do. This may involve moving levels if it’s the right thing for you.
