Language Enhancement and Methodology for Teachers of English

These Teacher Refresher Courses have been created by The Liverpool School of English.

These courses are intended for overseas teachers of English who want to improve their mastery of the English language, discover new methodology, and learn about British culture.  Each two week course offers 30 hours input per week, combining language enhancement and teaching methodology. Participants also take part in organised cultural activities (optional).  The course is suitable for teachers specialising in teenage and adult students. Teachers should have at least an Upper Intermediate level of English

EFL writer Jeremy Harmer (The Practice of English Language Teaching, among many others) has said "Most teachers of ten years' experience do not really have ten years' experience: They have two years' experience, five times". In other words, it is easy to stop developing your teaching style once you reach a certain level.

This course is a chance for teachers to reflect on their teaching style and look at methods and approaches, including communicative language learning, task based learning, direct method, content based learning (CLIL) and others. The course will also look at using media, songs and texts in language teaching and teaching the four skills, as well as grammar and vocabulary.

Aims of the Course

The course will have a large proportion of discussion and reflection, giving teachers a chance to look at their teaching style and take a fresh approach to teaching.

Course Information

• Age:18+
• Hours: 30 hours per week
• Each 3 hour block of learning includes a 15 minute break
• Levels: Upper Intermediate + (CEF B2-C2)
• Course Length: 2 weeks
• Class Times: 9:00-12:00 and 13:00-1:00 every day, Mon-Fri
• Max Class Size: 15 students
• Average Class Size: 12 students
• TKT exam module 1, 2 and 3 ( on last Friday or Saturday)
• Full day excursions and activities ( optional)
