Course Outline
This course is designed for students from outside the EU who want to study long-term in the UK, either at a language school, college or university.
To apply for a Tier 4 Student visa in the UK students need to show English ability of B1 level, ready to start a B2 level course or above. The most commonly accepted SELT (Secure English Language Test) is the IELTS exam, which must be passed with a minimum grade of 4.0 in all areas: Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking.
At The Liverpool School of English we have years of experience of students studying with us and going on to university study, both in Liverpool and in other cities around the UK. This 6 month course is designed for students of CEF level A2, B1 and B2 (Elementary, Pre-Intermediate and Intermediate) to achieve the grades you need to pass the IELTS and study in the UK.
The course is made up of three parts:
- 15 hours per week of General English per week, focusing on Listen, Speaking, reading and Writing skills, plus vocabulary and grammar.
- 2 hours per week of Academic Skills, this is an introduction to exam reading, writing and listening techniques.
- 6 hours per week of extra classes: At Elementary level these are General English classes.
At Pre Intermediate/Intermediate level they are IELTS preparation classes to prepare students to get grade 4.0
In addition you will receive extra counselling and support to help you through the exam.
The cost of this course is £3600 and includes all course materials and a single IELTS exam fee, to be arranged at Liverpool University.
The six month student visitor visa is available for this course. You will need to return to your home country to apply for a Tier 4 visa.

The course will improve your English in all areas and give you a chance to gain an internationally recognised certificate, IELTS at grade 4.0 or above.

Each 3 hour block of learning includes a 15 minute break
Each 2 hour block of learning includes a 5 minute break

Class Times: 9:00-12:00 or 12:45-15:45 everyday
Mon-Fri, plus four extra classes (8 hours) 13:00-15:00 Mon, Tues,
Weds, Thurs
Max Class Size: 15 students
Average Class Size: 12 students
Start Dates: Any Monday
